City of Utica Master Plan Meeting Scheduled for South Utica Neighborhood / 10.7.09

UTICA, NY – As part of the City of Utica Master Plan development process, a series of neighborhood meetings are now in progress. The next meeting scheduled is for the South Utica neighborhood area and will be held on Tuesday, October 13th at 6:00 pm in the Our Lady
of Lourdes Auditorium.

Residents are welcome to attend the session to discuss goals for the future of the city, particularly relating to the South Utica neighborhood. The discussion will focus on what residents would like to see happen in terms of growth, change, development, and retaining the character of the neighborhood.

A community master plan provides a conceptual vision for the growth and development of the city.
It takes into account the goals the community wants to achieve, and outlines the actions that are
needed to achieve those objectives.

The City’s economic development staff, consultant team and steering committee are engaging in
discussions across the city to gather information that will help formulate the final plan document.
The final plan will address a number of elements, including:

- Land use and development patterns
- Transportation, gateways, and corridors
- Green infrastructure
- Downtown redevelopment
- Housing development
- Transformative projects
- Strategies for implementation

The outcome of the process is a written vision directing all development activities. It is an all-inclusive approach to addressing future growth. The master plan document that results can then be used as a policy guide for the city’s decisions about the development of the community.
